I always enjoy hearing the recent graduate's experience. As an economics major myself, I can tell you there is very little real-world applicability with regards to the curriculum. Most of what I know about economics that would be appealing to a potential employer was through self-education and research. As graduation draws nearer for me I feel as if the most important thing I can do is actually get to know a lot more people since "who you know" (networking) is probably one of the most, if not the most, important aspects of finding a job in the real world.

Anyways, great article and good luck finding a job!

Nice article Kyle! I like how you quoted the National Geographic interview. That was a VERY interesting program. It is amazing how a few guys with box cutters can cause one of the most tragic events in the history of the United States. They may not have had many weapons, but they were armed with an abundance of knowledge and years of training. Most importantly they had a drive to kill at the cost of their own lives. How can you battle with someone who is not only totally willing to die for their cause, but actually views it as an honor? You can't. Thus this "war" with Afghanistan might just be a huge waste of time. Again, good segment Mr. Riddles!

My father told me I was "misguided" because I would not base my political ideas on my religion. It's so easy to base voting on spirituality when your specific religion is the dominant. If the U.S. were to become a moslty Buddist nation and laws were influenced by that, Christians would deem it unfair, biased and a violation of church and state separation.

The key word in your opening statement is successful. Yes these candidates have garnered a significant portion of the vote, but did they win? The answer is no. "Now with all these parties in existence how many can you name that have a great impact on policy, legislation and send representatives to office on a federal and state level?" Third parties do impact elections? Yes. They dilute votes from parties. Just as Perot pulled votes away from Bush, Wallace pulled votes away from Humphrey, just as Nader did in 2000 to Gore etc.
My argument for third party participation equating to apathy is not in the sense of where the individuals heart is, rather the outcome of their efforts. Insignificant in the matter of policy. Apathy also affects election results just as third parties do. If more individuals would vote, our representation would be quite different. The article clearly states that this sort of enthusiasm is welcome, but is currently being poorly directed. I appreciate your constructive criticism and debate, it's thoughts and minds like yourself that will pull us out of a dead political society.

Suggesting that third parties have never been successful is short-sighted. Before the New Deal, third parties have had significant roles in election - see Robert La Follete winning Wisconsin in the 1924 Presidential election, George Wallace recieved almost 20% of the popular vote 1968, Ross Perot 18% in 1992, the whigs, the Bull Moose and the Populist party of 1892. It's even more ridiculous to suggest that participating in politics through a third party equates one with apathy; anyone who has associated with a third party should be commended for participating in support of their beliefs, despite the lesser role played (and this is a role much bigger at the local level). It's arrogant to suggest the opposite.

In short, I think that we should end the government's control in our lives, and not allow them to define marriage - period.

This should be decided by one's religion or lack there of.

Some would ask, "what about tax breaks?" Good question, if the government didn't collect taxes through such immoral methods, this issue would be obsolete.
